About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

St. Thomas Downtown Offices Closed Due to Water Service Interruption on Oct. 27 
October 27, 2021

The Virgin Islands Department of Education will close its St. Thomas headquarters and all downtown offices and schools, effective immediately, due to a water service interruption resulting from a ruptured water main. 

Employees who have the capability to telework are required to do so. 

WAPA crews have begun repairs, which is expected to be completed later today. 

Schools and offices are expected to resume normal operations on Oct. 28.

  1. St. Thomas-St. John District - All schools will be closed on Oct. 27 to accommodate scheduled parent conferences. Teachers will inform parents on whether meetings would be conducted virtually or in-person.
  • Meal distribution will be suspended district-wide ​

  1. St. Croix District - Classes will not be held for students in grades 9-12th on Oct. 27 to accommodate scheduled parent conferences. Parents are asked to contact the school to obtain details of student academic progress.
  • PreK-8th grade students will attend classes as normal
  • Meal distribution will be suspended at St. Croix Central High School and St. Croix Educational Complex High School -- all other sites are open
