Juanita Gardine Elementary School librarian, Janice Ferdinand and computer teacher, Veronica Prescott recently enjoyed the launch of the St. Croix District's Coding Academy during two days of training on May 22 and 23 at the school.
During the training, taught by St. Croix District Technology Coordinator Ryan Everett, the curiosity of students nearby on their lunch break got the best of them and students began wandering into the classroom. Soon, teachers and students were enjoying a fun, hands-on training on ScratchJr, an introductory programming language that enables young children (ages 5-7) to create their own interactive stories and games. Children snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing.
