Talented Student Wins 2nd Place in Congressional Art Competition
Alayna Caraballo (center) is greeted by Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (right) during the awards ceremony for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition.
With no formal enrollment in art classes at the St. Croix Central High School where she attends, 10th grader Alayna Caraballo managed to snag second place in the recent 2017 Congressional Art Competition.
How did she do it?
Central High School art instructor Niarus Benjamin-Walker described Alayna's success as a mixture of sheer determination and raw talent.
"She came in at lunch for almost three months, working in thirty-minute intervals," Mrs. Benjamin-Walker said. "Imagine if she actually had an art class."
Congratulations, Alayna! Keep up the good work.
