Ivanna Eudora Kean High School to Dismiss Students Immediately Due to Ongoing Water Pump Station Repairs
The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces the immediate dismissal of students at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School today, Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The decision to dismiss students early comes in response to ongoing repairs by the Water and Power Authority (WAPA) to a water pump station affecting the eastern side of St. Thomas. Without a reliable water supply, the school cannot ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
VIDE officials have been in direct communication with WAPA personnel. Unfortunately, a definite completion time for the repairs is currently unavailable, prompting the urgent need for students to leave the school premises.
Classes will continue virtually, with online instruction beginning at 12 noon today. Teachers will contact students via email or Teams to coordinate assignments and activities.
Transportation arrangements are as follows:
- Bus Transportation: Buses have been dispatched to transport students who normally use bus services.
- Parent/Guardian Pickup: Parents and guardians are asked to pick up their children from the school as soon as possible.
The Virgin Islands Department of Education appreciates the cooperation and understanding of parents, guardians, and the community as we work to maintain the safety and well-being of our students. Please monitor official VIDE communication channels for any further updates.
