About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

TACKLE FOOTBALL GAME POSTPONED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

ST. THOMAS – The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces that the tackle football game between Ivanna Eudora Kean High School and Charlotte Amalie High School scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024 has been postponed until further notice. Due to inclement weather and the poor field conditions at Lionel Roberts Stadium, the game will be rescheduled. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority.

JANE E. TUITT ELEMENTARY RE-OPENS FOR OPEN HOUSE ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH, 2024

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) informs the public that the Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School will resume normal operations for the Open House on Friday, October 25, 2024.

Due to a sewage line problem affecting the campus, the school was closed on Thursday, October 24, 2024. During this time students engaged in virtual learning to ensure instructional continuity. Immediate action was taken by district officials and Waste Management technicians were on site early Thursday morning to repair the damaged sewage line.

Jane E. Tuitt Elementary, along with all schools across the St. Thomas-St. John district, will open for Parental Conferences / Open House from 8:15 a.m. – 12 noon, Friday, October 25, 2024. Jane E. Tuitt Elementary students will resume in-person learning on Monday, October 28, 2024.

The VIDE extends gratitude to parents, students, faculty, and staff for their cooperation during this period. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all stakeholders remains a top priority for VIDE as we manage day-to-day school operations.

ALL CLEAR RECEIVED FOR EULALIE RIVERA K-8 SCHOOL AND CAMPUS ON ABBREVIATED SCHEDULE

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Virgin Islands Police Department received a report of a shooting incident in the Lorraine Village area. Due to the proximity to Eulalie Rivera, The Virgin Islands Department of Education was immediately informed, prompting the School to initiate a comprehensive lockdown procedure.

School officials activated safety and security protocols to ensure the well-being of students, faculty, and staff while the VIPD conducted a thorough sweep of the campus. Subsequent to the VIPD's diligent safety inspection, school authorities received the "all clear" signal, confirming the absence of any threat on the campus.

The school has resumed it’s previously established abbreviated schedule. Parents are picking up there children due to the end of the school day. We appreciate the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and school personnel in swiftly addressing the situation and ensuring the safety of our educational community.
