About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

St. Thomas-St. John District Announces Asynchronous Learning for Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Due to Funeral Service

The St. Thomas-St. John District informs the public that the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School (BCBMS) will engage in asynchronous learning on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. The school campus will be closed on Wednesday to allow faculty and staff to attend the funeral service of   Ms. Nydia Lewis, a BCBMS Special Education teacher. Students will not physically report to school on Wednesday, November 29th. All students will be assigned asynchronous learning activities and instructions from teachers in preparation for Wednesday.

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education expresses condolences to the family, friends, loved ones, former colleagues, and former students of Ms. Lewis. Recognized as a dedicated and caring educator, Ms. Lewis began her tenure at the VIDE at the Charlotte Amalie High School and then transferred to the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. Her commitment and compassion for students continued at the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle, which later became her school home. Ms. Lewis will especially be remembered for her unwavering and stellar work ethic.

 

As the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School mourns the passing of Ms. Lewis, we reflect on her legacy and treasure her impact as an educational trailblazer. We thank all students and parents for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.

Virgin Islands Department of Education Issues No School Reminder Due to Professional Development Day and Thanksgiving Holiday

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is issuing a reminder to all parents, guardians, and students that there will be no school on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, due to a scheduled Professional Development Day for all faculty and staff. All schools territory-wide will be closed.

 

Professional Development Days play a crucial role in the continuous improvement of education quality. During these sessions, educators engage in specialized training, collaborative workshops, and strategic planning. The VIDE recognizes the importance of fostering a learning environment that thrives on innovation, and dedicated Professional Development Days contribute significantly to achieving this goal. By investing in the professional growth of our educators, we aim to provide students with an enriched and effective educational experience.

 

Schools will also remain closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 23, 2023, and on Friday, November 24, 2023. While students enjoy these days off from school, parents are encouraged to take this opportunity to engage with their children in meaningful discussions and activities outside the classroom.

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education appreciates the understanding and support of parents, students, and the community during these scheduled breaks, as they are instrumental in our commitment to delivering a world-class education to the students of the Virgin Islands. Normal school operations will resume on Monday, November 27, 2023.

ST. THOMAS- ST. JOHN DISTRICT ANNOUNCES TEACHER OF THE YEAR HONOREE LUNCHEON CEREMONY ON DECEMBER 13, 2023

The St. Thomas-St. John District extends a warm invitation to the public for the 2023 Teacher of the Year Honoree Luncheon Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Tickets for this event are priced at $50.00 and are available for purchase at various locations: Ivanna Eudora Kean High School Main Office, Charlotte Amalie High School Main Office, Ulla F. Muller Elementary School Main Office, St. Thomas-St. John District Office located at Tutu Park Mall (former Scotia Bank location), or directly from the honorees.

 

Mark your calendars for this special occasion to be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Columban Hall-Holy Family Church. This year's theme, "Teach, Love, Inspire," will be celebrated during the luncheon, where we will pay tribute to the three exceptional Teacher of the Year Nominees: Dara Battiste from Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Chevell Simeon from Charlotte Amalie High School, and Candeya Turnbull Brown from Ulla F. Muller Elementary School. Join us in recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of these dedicated educators.
