Turn Off SSL Certificates on Firefox
Sites where privacy is a concern use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for security. SSL helps prevent a website from leaking sensitive personal or business data, such as a social security number or bank account information, to unapproved third parties. Firefox recommends that you do not turn off SSL certificates, but you may need to disable them temporarily to troubleshoot problems with the browser. You can also delete specific SSL certificates if you no longer need them or you think they're causing an error.
- Open Firefox and click "Tools" or the "Firefox" button at the top of the window.
- Select "Options."
- Click the "Advanced" tab, then the "Encryption" tab.
- Uncheck the box next to "Use SSL 3.0."
- If desired, also uncheck the box for "Use TLS 1.0." TLS, or Transport Layer Security, is a privacy protocol similar to SSL.
- Click "View Certificates" if you want to delete specific SSL certificates. Click on the tab containing the certificate you want to erase, such as "Authorities," "Servers" or "People."
- Click "Delete or Distrust..." and click "OK" to confirm.
- Close the certificates window and click "OK" in the Options window.
