Complex High School Advanced Placement Calculus Program Receives Resource Books From Cane Bay Cares

ST. CROIX, USVI – The St. Croix Educational Complex High School Advanced Placement (AP) calculus program recently received a donation of 14 student resource books and one teacher’s edition from Cane Bay Cares, a service initiative of St. Croix-based Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP.

According to AP calculus teacher, Cletus Emmanuel, “the books were put directly to use as soon as they were received” in mid-June.

“It is our practice to begin AP courses during the summer before the school year begins,” he said. “Our AP calculus students for incoming school year 2020-2021 are engaged in summer instruction and these books are a valuable resource.”

Emmanuel said having access to the resource books offer several advantages, including ease of use for students in comparison to the online version, alignment with the school’s AP calculus curriculum, and the ability to serve future AP calculus students.

Principal Rodney Moorhead expressed his appreciation for the donation to the high school.

“We are grateful for the partnership and generosity of Cane Bay Cares,” he said. “Providing these important resources for our AP students will go a long way toward their academic achievement.”

Kirk Chewning and David Johnson, co-founders of Cane Bay Partners and Cane Bay Cares, conveyed their commitment to supporting local schools.

“We are pleased that we have the opportunity to continue to work with the VI Department of Education on specific, meaningful projects, such as this math-tools effort at Complex, as well as our flagship program, Operation Inspire,” Chewning said.

Johnson added, “We are glad to help the students at Complex get the supplies they need to be successful in their math studies, and we hope that some of them want to become statisticians and work with us at Cane Bay Partners one day to help build the next generation of analytical models.”
